Points or no points?

Thursday, July 30, 2009

Both Foxy and Kyle have suggested that last night's game shouldn't have really counted seeing as not everyone was trying (Alan aside I bet!) and towards the end, it was a bit of a kick about. Thoughts of those that played please - stick them in the MOTM.

Next week, Foxy and Martie are out for a couple of weeks. Si, Andy and myself are out with ankle injuries (it looks that my hopes of coming back were premature). I shall endeavour to get then players but please, no Tuesday night call offs!

Four v four

Wednesday, July 29, 2009

I'm very sorry to say that this week's game is a 4 v 4 affair. Up until 6pm yesterday we had ten but then William pulled out as he was offered hospitality to the Celtic game. It should be noted that William is a Rangers fan so he chose the opposition over Fitbaw. At the last minute. With no apology. Anyone else in favour of docking Mr Wright ten points? ;)

At that point, I got on the phone to try and scare up a tenth man but before I had finished sending out the texts, I received one from Steven who had pulled his groin in his Tuesday night game. Despite calls to Robert, Paul, Marc, Grant, Campbell and Ross, no once could play. This morning Gordo tried to get someone, as did Scott but still no luck which means it's a 4 v 4. Sorry but not much else I could do.

So guys, I'm asking nice, if you are going to pull out of Wednesday, I need to know ASAP. 6pm on a Tuesday night is really too late to pull out (and I'm not just having a go a Wills here - others have done so in the past too) without a very good reason. It's not just me that your let down but all the guys that are playing so please consider them as well. At the very least, if you do have to pull out, I'd appreciate it if you could maybe do your best to find a replacement. I am more than happy to send out a list of email addresses and mobile numbers so you can track down your own reserve - I'll maybe send out an email later.

Another ankle?

Thursday, July 23, 2009

I believe Neil hurt his ankle last night - another ankle injury. It really is the injury of choice this season, what with Si and I at the moment and Andy doing his Achilles on Monday - all the cool kids are doing it!

Another win for William last night but also another win for Alan which leaves the two of them above the 2.0 mark in the table. With around 20 games to go they are catchable but it'll be tough. Could Alan take the POTY hat trick? Can Wills hold onto his season long lead? We'll find out in December.

Next week Neil and Andy may be out but Martie should be back and I'm hoping to be able to run about. I won't be fit in any which way at all, but I may be able to run. It's a start.

A few things to help jog your memory

Wednesday, July 22, 2009

Thanks to everyone for Saturday - I'm told I had a great time. Well done to Gordon, Andy and Robert to staying out until 3am on nothing but lager and Jack Daniels.

First off, here's THAT goal - click on the image to see if in High Definition!

Fitbaw Summer Extravaganza 2009

Finally, Andy and Martie are both out for tonight's game. Jon and Ross make up the ten. I'm hoping to be back next week! Yay!

Please give you exact money to Kyle before tonight's game. Seeing as there is no kitty we need your subs to pay for the pitch before kick off. Thanks.

Why so pish?

Thursday, July 16, 2009

Apparently last night's game was one of the worst games of fives ever played. No one could really be bothered and then it rained and everyone became even less bothered. The Tatties managed to come back from being six down to take the win by two. So there.

Ross has had to pull out of Saturday as he has to go to Greenock and work which means we'll need another player. Maybe Foxy will play which will give us out ten or I'll have to pull in a reserve who will then benefit by coming out for the day with us.

Ye Olde Fitbaw

Wednesday, July 15, 2009

I found some old shots of us playing Fitbaw from way back in the heady days of 2004. I've updated the media page with them but here's some quick links to get you going:

A wet day in May 2004 -
Fitbaw May 2005

A sunny day in May -
Fitbaw May 2005 - Sunny

I also found some shots of last year's Summer Extravaganza so there they are to get you in the mood -

Speaking of which, the pitch is booked for noon on Saturday and we have ten players so please no one get injured tonight! After that, I have a table booked for thirteen of us at 1:30pm at The Europa Bar. We have some vouchers to get 2 for 1 on the mains so that should keep the cost down. After that, the world is our oyster.

Tonight's game sees the return of Scott and Neil but Foxy is off to The Open to watch some fat guys hit small balls and Gordo is recovering from jet lag. Si and I remain on the injury list.

Summer Extravaganza Reminder

Thursday, July 09, 2009

Just to remind you all that we're still on for the 18th July as the Fitbaw Summer Extravaganza 2009! At the moment, Kyle is the only Hardcore to have to pull out - he forgot he had a wedding to go to. From the reserves, both Jon and Ross are able to make it, giving us a total of 13 guys out for the day.

Although there were plans to do something different, all that really means is that all the kitty cash goes on doing stuff rather than free beer. I think we'd all rather have free beer would we not?

So, seeing as a few people have asked for a game of fives to kick us off, we'll go for that. I reckon we can have a noon kick off, and be in town for 1:30pm for some food and beers. From there, we can just see what the weather is doing and where we want to go. Foxy has suggested the Counting House just because it's cheap pub grub. If anyone has any other suggestions, please let me know.

If anyone doesn't want to play fives on Saturday (other than Foxy) please let me know as with Si and I injured, that'll leave us less than ten players so we may have to scrap the fives or find another ringer to bring along for the day.

Regular ringers

Wednesday, July 08, 2009

Another last minute dash to try and get ten players with even reserves dropping out this week! Marc and Robert are back again along with Steven and Paul. Alan and Martie are back but Foxy and Neil both have stuff on tonight and join the injuries and holidays in a decimated regulars' squad.

I'll try get teams up before the end of the day but I've got a meeting to go to so better to bring both tops just in case.

Block booking

Friday, July 03, 2009

This won't mean much to most of you but Powerleague have finally agreed to let us block book a pitch for 6:30pm on Wednesday nights. In theory, we should always have pitch 8 unless there's a tournament on or something where they need the pitch but we should get plenty of notice if that happens.

My thanks go to Foxy for booking the pitch for the last few years and to Kyle for picking up the reigns this year. It'll mean no more random 9:30pm games or anything like that. Yay!

A draw and a moral victory

Thursday, July 02, 2009

The first draw of the year last night though a number of the Mince men have claimed it maybe was a one goal win for them. Rather than be bitter and argue about it, they've decided to claim a moral victory. Well played to everyone for what sounds like a good game. Well done to Marc and Robert who acquitted themselves well on the night too.

Next week Alan and Martie are back but Neil and Foxy are out. Gordon and Scott are still on holiday and Si and I are still suffering from chocolate ankles. That means we'll need four ringers so I'll be in touch.

Please make sure and get your MOTM votes in - only 6 last week. Ta.

Shoot on sight

Wednesday, July 01, 2009

Another game filled with randoms I'm afraid. Martie, Si and I share all have the injury "du jour" - a knackered ankle. Scott and Alan are on holiday (not together they tell me) and Gordo is still "working" in the USA - it's a hard life!

A new chap from IDOX called Marc makes his début - he works with Wills in finance so I have no idea what he'll be like but I'm trying to find out so teams will go up once we know a bit more about Marc. The other new face is Robert. No, not our German friend with the controversial top, but a friend of Andy's who it apparently a decent footballer (or so Kyle says).

Tonight will be the first game where the "you can only shoot from your opponent's half" rule will be dropped. We'll see how it goes and make a final ruling once we've had a few games. I bet Foxy and Steve will be the first to take advantage of it.
