Foxy breaks his duck - Craig breaks his foot

Thursday, February 26, 2009

An injury strewn game last night. Stuart gets knobbled in the second minute and spends most of the night in goals. Steven hurts his knee but still managed to romp around the park the same as always. Si thinks he may have pulled his groin again, and Craig fractures his big toe at the joint. Ouch all round people! At least it was a closer game than last week.

Next week I'll see if we can scrape together ten fit players - folk with injuries, please let me know ASAP if you're definitely out for next week so I can start on the ringers.

Andy gets his wish - and doesn't like it!

Alan pulled out this morning after injuring his toe playing last night. Add that to Gordo not feeling well, Kyle being off work having not eaten in three days, Scott injuring his back at school (the rumour is that he was rugby tackled by a 1st year) and it's time for the ringers again. Craig, Jon and Steven make up the remainder of the squad.

This week sees the start of everyone getting a chance to pick the teams and we started with Andy - Alan can have his pick when he's back. After a couple of drafts, we have ended up with the teams you now see before you.

I reckon he's done a pretty good job but let's face it, it can't be worse than last week. Can it?

High scores and high drama

A disappointing game last night for a variety of reasons. I thought the teams were balanced but Gordo and Foxy both said before the game that they thought ours looked stronger which seemed to be true. However, it does help when the opposition give you the ball directly from their goal quite a lot. I don't know, maybe it was just one of those nights. Anyway, I think it's better we all just move on from last night's game as quickly as possible.

Andy asked if he could pick the teams (jokingly) but I think it's worth giving it a go. We've tried it in the past to let everyone have a shot or to have two people act as captains and pick the teams but it never seemed to work out. But what have we got to lose from giving it a go again?

If we go in alphabetical order, give everyone one week and see how it goes once everyone has done it once. I warn you know, it's not easy. You want to make them fair so no one accuses you of trying to fix it but at the same time, you don't want to handicap yourself too much either. The other aspect of picking teams is I try to give everyone a shot of playing together and also stop the same people being in the same team week after week. It's not as easy as I make it seem (ahem).

So next week, Alan will be picking the teams (which has never gone well!), then Andy, and so on.

No rematch

Wednesday, February 18, 2009

Someone suggested a rematch this week seeing as the squad was the same but last week's teams were hand crafted for the smaller park and may not be as balanced is they were moved to the larger park. Anyway, new week, new teams, new challenges and I think we'd struggle to recapture last week's magic.

Park seven tonight. See you there.

Ouch!

I felt last night was how Fitbaw should be all the time. It was an all Hardcore event, everyone put in a good shift, there was some nice football played on both sides, it was a close game but there were no niggles (other than the usual goal line controversy but we're always going to get that). All that on a wee pitch which I normally hate but it seemed to work for us last night. Had I not taken two thunderous shots to the bollocks in the space of a couple of minutes it would have been a perfect night. Kyle, consider yourself a marked man.

A potential Hat of Doooom for next week again as we seem to have a full squad, so if anyone can't play, please let me know.

So it'll be a draw then?

Foxy canny play this week as he has to baby sit the wee man so no one gets Jonah the Jinx this week!

We're on the small park (number 11) at the moment but I've got us down to change to a larger park should one come up.

One run ends as another continues

Thursday, February 05, 2009

Andy "Livin' the dream" Hood's unbeaten run came to an end last night in snowy conditions. Ian "Jonah the jinx" Fox's run, unfortunately, is still going strong which gives me horrible flash backs of myself last season. It can only get better Foxy!

Not the best game last might but not the worst either especially considering the slippy pitch and ball. The Tatties moved the ball well' attacked at pace and marked tightly. The Mince did none of those things and so lost. Badly.

Next week I expect a full squad so watch out for the Hat of Doooooom.

Should have gone to Specsavers

Wills is taking his wife out for dinner as it's her birthday tonight and Stuart is off to fawn at David Beckham at Ibrox tonight. We welcome back Jon as the tenth man.

Pitch 7 tonight. Teams to follow shortly and Andy and Foxy will be in the same team. Someone's run has to come to and end tonight!

There's no way it's not going to be frickin' freezing tonight so a second top may be a good idea! Alan, that goes double for you - the night it snowed, I've never seen a man look so cold!

Finally, I'll leave you with the following photo. Si was asked to sign this last weekend...

Should have gone to specsavers
