Fitbaw summer break

Monday, July 28, 2008

It's a sorry state of affairs - out of the twelve hardcore and the five or so regular reserves, only three guys could make it. Even if we'd had five, we could have played a wee challenge match against the DC guys but by this morning, there were even more potential call offs so the game is cancelled.

There should be a game on the 6th August by which time Gordon, Foxy, Stuart, William, Jon, Andy and myself should all be back. If anyone can't make it, or thinks they won't be able to make it, then please let my very glamorous assistant Kyle know ASAP please.

Potential cancellation

Sounded like another good game last night so well done to me for picking such evenly matched teams. Craig said that the Mince were down by two all the way through but managed to sneak the win by one at the end of the game. Nice. Si was somewhat more emotional about what was only his second win in four months:

"There are tears in my eyes. I've never felt this way before, never had such emotions for another four men. I won a f***ing game. And now I rest."

Next week, not only are the same people who missed this week's game out, but Alan is away and Ross and Jon can't make it. That means, out the Hardcore only Kyle (who hurt his knee and may not be able to play), Neil, Si and Scott are available (and I'm not even sure about Scott as Liz is due to pop any moment so Scott might not want to play anyway). Disastrous!

I think, realistically, the best we could manage would be a 4v4 and we'd probably struggle to get eight players on the pitch. I'll speak to Scott and Kyle and find out for definite if they can play but at the moment, it looks as if the game is going to be cancelled due to lack of players which, I think, is the first time we've ever had to do that. It's a (potentially) sad day for Fitbaw.

I'll let you guys know what the chat is as soon as I do but if it's going to be cancelled then I have to do it by Monday or we'll get charged.

Is there anyone left?

Gordo - taking a couple of weeks off
Foxy - out for a couple of weeks with his calf strain
Martie - NOT in London (in Birmingham instead)
Wills - helping the in-laws move a renovate for a couple of weeks
Andy - working late until the end of the month
Stuart - at a gig this week and Ibrox the one after that
Me - tweaked my groin again after Saturday's game and moving house next week.

So there you go - everyone listed above can't play this week OR the next. In fact, as of 9am this morning it, it was going to be a 4v4 game but Ponto came through as he's done so many times before and is bringing is mate Allan who's played for us quite a few times before.

Next week we'll need everyone fit and able to play please! Also, if you're a reserve and you play tonight, you are guaranteed a game next week. I'll confirm all that tomorrow.

By the way - did anyone lift the ball on Saturday? It didn't come off the park with me and it wasn't handed in at the pitches when I called to see on Sunday. If you did pick it up, please bring it with you. Ta.

Have a good game lads.

Sounded good (if you were a Tattie)

Craig said that it was a good close game with the Mince always threatening to to come back at any moment but the Mince managing to hold on, even with an injured Foxy.

Next week I reckon I'll be back as will Kyle and Si. Foxy will probably be out for a couple of weeks and Andy may have to work late again.

See you all Saturday just before noon at Powerleague!

Happy Birthday Neily!

I'm still injured, Martie's still in London, Andy's still having to work late on a Wednesday, Si's at a gig and Kyle's getting ready to move house tomorrow. Craigo, Jon and Gordo's mate Big "Batman" Dave who's played before make up the ten. Foxy and Gordo are both carrying slight injuries so be nice to them.

Seeing as I'm not playing and neither is Kyle, could the non-IDOX-ers please give your cash to William. IDOX chaps - cash to me as normal.

Don't forget that this Saturday is the Fitbaw Summer Extravaganza. The plan is to play a game of fives at Townhead and I've booked a pitch for a 12pm kick-off. That means we'll be finished by 1pm, changed and heading off to the West End for some food by about 1:30pm. I thought we'd to to Cottiers as they do a outdoor BBQ during the summer and the burgers are excellent (though it is meant to be raining). After that we can just play it by ear and drink until the money (or the beer) runs out.

If you want to bring a car then no problem as we probably won't be drinking at the fives so you can take them home and drop them if that makes life a bit easier.

Initially, only Foxy and Craigo couldn't make it but now Gordo and Scott are both having to miss out too. Gordo is doing some charity work (read "community service") and Scott has a wedding he forgot about. Sorry lads, we'll bring you back something nice. That means the list is:

- Iain
- Si
- Kyle
- Martie
- Alan
- Neil
- Stuart
- William
- Andy
- Jon
- Ross

So ready to kick off at noon and bring your going out gear with you. If anyone can't make it then please let me know ASAP. If folk can't make it or don't want to play fives first, then I'll need to cancel the pitch by tomorrow or we'll get charged.

Finally, belated happy returns to Mr Williamson who hit the big four-ohhhhmygodthatsold on Monday. We'll have a proper celebration on Saturday for him.

Have a good game chaps.

Nae chat

"The Tatties were winning for the first 20 minutes or so but then the Mince came back and won by four or five" is what I've been told. You can debate the truth in this in the MOTM poll.

Next week Si is at a gig, Kyle might be moving house, Andy may be working and I may still be injured so we'll just have to play it by all by ear come Monday.

I want to play!

Wednesday, July 09, 2008

Andy's working late again this week (and probably next week), I'm injured, Gordo's on holiday and Martie's London bound as always. Foxy wasn't going to play as he's a bit knackered at the moment but seeing as we were short, he's going to help out - cheers Foxy. Ross and Jon make up the ten.

Have a good game - I wish I was playing.

Doesn't count! DOESN'T COUNT!!!

OK it does. It as a shame as last night's game as shaping up to go right down to the wire. Before my injury I think we were one up and the boys did well to stay in contention but it's nearly impossible when you're a man down (especially when Scott's booting them in from half way to an empty goal - booooo!). If we ever manage to get the same ten players on the park and the same time again, I'd love to see a rematch.

Ross was saying that when it's four vs five there shouldn't be any passbacks for the five man team. I think that makes a lot of sense and give the four man team more of a chance so next time someone has to go off (which I hope never occurs) then that'll be the rule.

Next week should see Foxy, Alan and Andy back. Gordo's on holiday and I'll probably be out for a few weeks at least. I imagine Craig will be the tenth man.

I'm still looking for two more players for Monday's challenge match against another department in my work. If you want to play (and help maintain our undefeated record) then please let me know.

The challenge is extended

Wednesday, July 02, 2008

The DC invitational match, this coming Monday, is being opened out to the whole Fitbaw squad. It was meant to be an all IDOX affair but I've had two positives (plus me) and a few negatives from the IDOX boys so there are two spots up for grabs. Please let me know if you want to play - first come, first served.

Tonight's game features most of the reserves - Craigo, Jon and Ross. Alan is on holiday, Gordo is getting ready to go on holiday, Foxy is busy and Andy is at work.

Teams seem particularly hard to pick this week as there is a natural imbalance of playing styles - how to split Ross, Kyle and Scott for exmaple. I shall ponder some more and post them later this afternoon.
