Unlucky number seven

Another seven goal winning margin and another loss for Martie and me who have a grand total of zero wins between us - awesome!

I'm not sure what happened last night. In defence, we just seemed half a yard on the wrong side of the man or half a yard off the pace when they broke. That, and the fact that we hit the post about half a dozen times didn't exactly help us much. Some good football played by the Mince men though. Onwards and upwards.

Next week Martie is back in London and the week after that he's off to Iceland (the country not the the frozen food shop) so it'll be a few weeks before he gets the chance to lose again. Stuart should be back but Neil has a gig on so won't be there. Andy is playing plus A. N. Other.

Sniffles

Wednesday, January 30, 2008

Martie was probably going to be able to play but if his flight back up from London was delayed at all then he would miss the game - since he didn't want to leave us with only nine players, he pulled out and was replaced by Andy.

Stuart is at Ibrox for the Hearts game and so he was replaced by Robert. At this point, it looked as though we had the same squad as last week and team selection began in earnest. That was until Alan emailed me this morning to say the had come down with a bad cold and would rather not play.

Last minute replacements aren't that easy to find but I called Martie and seeing as the weather looks OK down there and OK up here, all things going according to plan then Martie should land in plenty of time to make the game and Alan's off the hook. If Martie is held up then Alan says he'll play but I just spoke to him and he doesn't sound good at all!

So crisis averted until, only ten minutes ago, Si called to say that, he too, had come down with a cold and felt like poop. He's going to see if Donny can fill in last minute for him. Again, if Donny can't make it then Si will load up on Lucozade and battle on.

So as it stands we should have ten but seeing as I have no idea what those ten will be, teams may not be picked until the last minute (or even when we're there).

At least it as close

Maybe not the best football was played but at least it was a hard fought, close game. The Tatties took an early lead but it was quickly pulled back by the Mince who then took their own lead. They held onto that lead most of the game but in the last ten minutes the Tatties managed to claw back a few extra goals but time was not on our side and it finished with just the one in it.

On refection, I'd say the right team won. The Mince men held the lead for all of the game apart from the first five minutes and played the better football at times.

Next week Martie and Stuart should be back so it could be an all regular affair. Gordo is also back in work on the 5th February so we could have a full squad.

Robert the ringer

Wednesday, January 23, 2008

Stuart's at the Rangers cup tie tonight and Martie's in London with work. Robert, who played in our Xmas kick about game, is the tenth man. He is, however, not feeling to great but with no one else around and it being last minute, is happy to play. It just means that the Tatties will have to work a bit harder.

[edit] - Does anyone fancy a game of fives with William's lot on Monday 28th January at the Pits in Shawlands? If so, please let him (or me if don't have details) know. Ta.

[edit again] - the teams have changed as there was some concerns about the levels of pace between the two teams. These final teams have been ratified by Foxy and Kyle as well. Here's hoping it's not a seven goal win again and it's a bit closer.

Front runners

Wednesday, January 16, 2008

Kyle, Stuart and Neil are now two for two so with Stuart at Ibrox next week, we'll make Kyle and Neil captains and see what happens.

Well it was nice to be back and welcomed with a thunderous shot to the thigh with the nice, new, hard, yellow ball - ah how I missed that over Christmas. It was nice too see who'd been enjoying themselves a bit too much over the festive period. What wasn't so nice was being absolutely knackered all the time and getting whupped but I was delighted to be back all the same.

Next week Stu's away and Martie's in London so Andy and A. N. Other will be filling the gaps.

Early team posting

Foxy has a bad sore throat and so will not be able to play. As per usual these days, that gives Andy a place in the starting squad. Pitch 8 this week.

Miss me?

Thursday, January 10, 2008

Stats are up as is MOTM. Next week I'll be back. If anyone else is out then let me know ASAP.

The week after is the rescheduled Old Firm match so if anyone is going to be missing fives because of it, let me know too. There was talk of moving out kick off time to 6pm to allow folk to make it home or to the pub to watch the game but if we do that then Foxy and Scott might not be able to play. Would anyone be interested in a 6pm move? It really depends on how may of folk will not be able to play if it's a 6:30pm KO. Either leave a comment here or even on the MOTM poll with your thoughts.

[edit] - I was wondering if anyone's interested in a sweep stake. All the hardcore names go into the hat and we all draw one out for the cost of a £1 say. Who ever draws the 2008 POTY's name wins all the cash at the night out. What do you think?

Gentlemen, start your engines

And so we kick of the start of our fourth fifth season here at Fitbaw! The only downside is that I, your fearless leader, will not be playing and I've got to say, I'm a bit gutted. I'm feeling a lot better and brought my kit just in case anyone pulls out this afternoon but it doesn't look very likely.

I've put the teams up and hope it's as fair as possible but it probably all really depends who's the least unfit after the Christmas break. I hope it's a great game and no one gets blown over by the gales.

Remember that it's £6 for the subs this year and please give your money to my glamerous assistant, Kyle.

Happy New Year

I hope you all had a good holiday and that Santa was good to you. Our first game is on Wednesday and as far as I am aware, the only person who cannot play is me - I have an infection where my wisdom teeth are coming in and don't really feel up for a game of fives. Hopefully Andy will be able to play so give us our 10. Remember that the subs have gone up to £6 so we'll all be filthy rich by the time Chrimbo comes round again.
