We could probably beat these guys

Down to the wire

Wednesday, November 28, 2007

That win for Alan puts him level with myself at the top of the table but it unfortunately rules Foxy out of the equation. I think that means that the best way to play it is to play me and Alan against Karl next week to give him a shot at the title - if Karl wins against Alan and I then he wins the POTY, if he loses then it's me vs Alan in the last game of the season to battle it out for the title. Exciting stuff (hopefully).

As for the game, the Mince men made it hard for ourselves by leaving huge gaps at the back and men unmarked. The Tattie chaps also made it hard for themselves by trying to walk the ball into the back of the net. A couple of surges from the Mince to get back into the game twice, only to lose it at the end were quite gutting but our finishing was just poor this week (mine certainly was so apologies to my team mates).

A full ten MOTM votes please.

Make or break

So with only three games left this season and with four of us still in the running for POTY it's make or break time! Karl's out this week as he's not too well but should be back for his final game ever next week which he'll have to win if he still in with a chance to pinch the POTY title. Si's in Bath and Martie is still down in London with work so Andy and Craigo are in.

Drookit

I've got to say I thought the game would have been much closer but you just can't tell sometimes. That bloody ball didn't help much either - I wonder how many goals would have been saved had it not been chucking it down with the slipperiest ball in history. Scott's back next week with a decent ball.

Martie might still be away next week and Si is down in Bath so I'll confirm numbers and sort out the squad on Monday.

MOTM is up for your voting pleasure.

Tricky pickings

I've hummed and hawed over the teams this week as I wanted to make sure that all four of the potential POTY winners. After much deliberation I'm almost happy with the teams and so are Karl, Alan and even Foxy who texted his approval not 5 minutes ago.

Scott is out this week as he has to go and collect his wedding photos (most original excuse? Nah - Karl still wins that for the trampoline injury) but Andy is in.

Thanks all for getting back to me about the Xmas night out. We have all the regulars apart from Karl (who is back home in the far north getting ready for his imminent emigration), Gordo (who will be in New York, New York by that point) and William who didn't realise that he already had plans with Mrs Wright.

From the ringers I can tell you that Grant and Craig are able to come and that Liam is not. More exciting info on that as it comes in.

It's anyone's game!

Thursday, November 15, 2007

We were seven goals down and managed to pull it back for the draw - what a game! I don't know how the Mince men feel about the game but I think we deserved the draw through sheer hard work and determination alone. Well played to all - shame the cameras weren't there this week! I don't think we feature but IDOX bods won't be able to see the highlights as our firewall blocks movies - bah!

Next week it should be the same squad but it'll be Iain & Alan vs Foxy & Karl - only four games left!

In case anyone missed it, Foxy won last week's MOTM. Don't forget to vote for this weeks. The stats have been updated too.

Update - Karl mentioned on the MOTM chat that we ARE famous! Still can't tell if we're in the video but we are in the main picture!! I've grabbed it so you all can see - click through for a bigger version and an identity parade.

Early selection

Tuesday, November 13, 2007

With Karl and me losing last week it's nice and tight at the top of the table. In the interest of keeping the teams fair from a stats point of view, we're going to make sure all those at the top of the table get the chance to play each other - like this:

7th Nov: Iain and Karl vs Foxy and Alan
14th Nov: Karl and Alan vs Iain and Foxy
21st Nov: Foxy and Karl vs Alan and Iain

Once that round is over, there will onlt be a few games left so we'll reassess what's best to do then.

This week Stuart, William and Neil are back. Martie's in London for the next couple of weeks with work but Scott's in so it's pretty much another regulars game - excellent. Although this does allow an early team selection, it more than likey means that someone will drop out!

Still quite a few votes not in for MOTM last week - if you've not voted please do before the end of play tomorrow (Karl, Martie, Scott, Alan and Andy!).

Sponsored by Nike!

Thursday, November 08, 2007

I'm not sure whether we'll be able to keep our sponsorship deal but it was a nice change. Did anyone manage to do any of the deadly fives moves? I think they were the nutmeg, the interception, the snapshot, the quick turn and the wall pass.

Anyway, the game was OK but the Nike Whites never got going and were pretty poor. It was the lowest scoring game all year and the second lowest of all time (the lowest being a 5-4 game on the 12th May 2004). With Karl and me both losing, it does make the run in to Xmas nice and close with Foxy and Alan (both previous winners of the POTY) also being in the running.

MOTM and stats are up.

Daddy Karl back on top

Wednesday, November 07, 2007

William pulled out late last night and with the Rangers game on telly and it being very short notice, it was proving hard to find a tenth player. That was until I noticed Craig sitting right across from me! Since he injured his wrist playing for us a few months ago, I had totally forgotten about him (in a footballing sense), so he's going to dive home after work and grab his kit - phew.

Neil's got a gig. Stuart is in the pub. William is working late and Kyle is heading back home for the rest of the week tonight. Andy, Scott, Grant and now Craig make up the ten which includes Daddy Karl who is back from paternity leave.

Fitbaw maths: Andy > Scott?

Thursday, November 01, 2007

I thought that with Scott having to drop out and Andy coming in, that the result would have been closer than the previous week. Not because Andy isn't as good as Scott, just that Andy is a more defensive player so we would have lost a goal threat. However, Andy seemed to have on a pair of magic boots last night and was performing well in every area of the park.

It started off much like last week with the Mince getting a quick head start before the Tatties started to tighten up and pull some goals back but it was one of those nights where almost everything came off for the Mince but even a slightly loose pass from the Tatties landed at the feet of a Mince player.

Next week Kyle is down south but Scott should be available to play. Karl may also be back from paternity leave but not sure if he'll be playing or nor. I'll sort the squad and teams out next week.
