Brad the bogeyman

Thursday, March 29, 2007

Well I lost my second game and the only common factor is that I was against Brad so from now on, if Brad's playing, he's going to be in my team!

It was good to see a few old faces back with SEPA Scott (he's still bloody good) and Craigo (he's still the cat in between the sticks). Also nice to get a new face into the pool with the new Scott who I thought acquitted himself well on his début.

So onto the game. The Mince men started slowly and let the Tatties take an early lead that we never really managed to claw back and that was about it. Apart from the first ten minutes, it was fairly even but if we'd been able to stick away half the chances we had rather than hit them straight at the Tattie keeper, then it could have been a different story. Mind you, if Craig hadn't saved 99% of Brad's shots at the end, then it could have been a bigger whupping than it was. All in all a good game - well played to all.

MOTM is up so please vote and leave a comment too.

Great Scotts!

Wednesday, March 28, 2007

It seems that "Italy vs Scotland = Can't play" for the lightweights of the squad. Excuses have ranged from "I'm baby sitting" to "I have to build a kitchen" and right through to "I'm not even in the country" - pathetic!

So those out are:
- Foxy
- Gordo
- Martie
- Stuart
- Donny
- Si

Liam, Steven, William, Ross and Ponto all couldn't play either but Scott Armstrong (SEPA, played before, quite handy) has agreed to play (thanks Scott) and Brad are playing. I also managed to get my future brother-in-law, another Scott, to play too. I've known Scott since high school and he's now a PE teacher so should be able to hold his own (I've not seen him kick a ball since school).

But that left only nine players and there were no more reserves to call and it didn't look good. However, Craigo is going to play - hurrah!

I'm very busy at the moment so if I get a chance, I'll get the teams up (might be a bit random this week with all the ringers) but if not, just make sure to bring both tops and

First off, sorry to Gordo for catching him in the ankle last night. He sneaked in at the last possible minute and nicked the ball off me but my foot was all ready on the way - you should have just let me score! ;)

Second - sorry to Neil for catching him in the jaw with an elbow. It was like the good old days of playing against Creeky!

I got Jon plenty last week so who's turn is it going to be next week? Tune in then to find out!

Onto the game. Damned close and the team who was behind for most of the game pulled through near the end to get the win. Well played to all.

Next week Martie is away to Italy to watch Scotland - jammy git!

Happy birthday Martie

Big Martie turned thirty today - congratulations chief! As it is, he's not playing tonight as I'm sure his lovely girlfriend is wining and dining him instead.

We also have an update for Si - it turns out he has a hernia!! That means an operations I imagine and a good long period out too. Poor Si! We hope you nuts get better soon!

Liam will be the tenth man tonight where we see the return of Foxy and Neil. Teams are up!

Comeback Kings

First off, I reckon Ross was being modest about his Fitbawing skills as he turned out to be pretty handy going forward we the Mince found out to their detriment early on. So the Tatties took and early and reasonably commanding lead and it stayed that way until about 15 minutes to go when the Mince men finally managed to drag it back to a draw. After that it stayed one up or down until the last few minutes when the Mince sneaked in a few cheeky ones. Definitely another game where the scoreline doesn't reflect how close the game was. Another great game.

Next week we're back to pitch 6 and, apart from our long term injuries in Donny and Si, I don't know anyone who can't play.

MOTM is up so away and vote (this means you too Gordo!) as are the stats. I've added Kyle to the Hardcore, not because he officially is, but because he's bottom of the table! ;)

Rise of the ringers - Ross

Wednesday, March 14, 2007

Another new face tonight. Ross works on the help desk here at work and plays fives quite regularly. We've been trying to get him a game for a few seasons now but whenever there's been space, it's been too last minute for Ross who lives somewhere far away like Largs. Ross describes himself as a reasonably fit, attacking midfielder so we'll see tonight if he's modest, spot on or just a bit liar!

Teams are up and we're on the sandpaper pitch tonight - number seven.

Seeing as Ross does live miles away, the game will finish dead on 7:30pm so he can make his train home. That will also allow us all to get home in time to watch the Rangers game is you're so inclined.

A great game last night - hard fought by everyone but it had to happen eventually and last night, I lost.

The Mince men took an early lead and were 5-1 up at one point. At that point the Tatties decided to start moving about and played some nice football to get them level. Not only that but they then decided to go 4 goals up!

The Mince were obviously unhappy about this and slowly but surely dragged them game back to level but by this point the Tatties were flagging and in the last 5 minutes let the Mincers slot away some easy goals to secure the victory with a scoreline that didn't do the closeness of the game any justice.

Well played to all as it was a cracker of a game and thanks to Foxy and Martie for making up the numbers when we were really struggling.

Some how we have ten

Wednesday, March 07, 2007

By the middle of the afternoon yesterday the squad looked like this:

Regulars:

  • Iain - fit
  • Jon - fit
  • Karl- fit
  • Neil - fit
  • Gordo - fit
  • Stuart - fit
  • Donny - broken ankle
  • Si - groin strain
  • Alan - train strikes means he can't get home if he played
  • Foxy - going out to watch the Celtic game
  • Martie - busted foot

Ringers:

  • Kyle - fit & available
  • Brad - fit & available
  • William - unavailable
  • Steven - unavailable
  • Liam - unavailable
  • Ponto - unavailable
  • Any of Gordo's pals - unavailable
  • Any of the SPEA boys - unavailable
  • Anyone else from IDOX - unavailable
  • Anyone else AT ALL - unavailable

I tried everyone but no luck so when I came in this morning, I asked the Fox if he would play and he graciously agreed to do so (and just as well as it's only Celtic for goodness sakes!). Martie also agreed that if we couldn't get anyone else that he would play one footed (no change there then). I'm not sure if Martie will be resigned to goals tonight or not but either way, I'm sure we're very grateful that he's helping us out!

Teams will go up shortly when I work them out.

if you've not voted MOTM for last week, please do. Five votes is just poor!

Runners vs Goal Scorers

Thursday, March 01, 2007

A last minute team change saw Gordo and William swap (it was too cold for them to swap tops) - would that have made a difference to the final score? We'll never know.

So it started off quite close with goals from either side coming thick and fast but then the Tatties seemed to find room at the back and used the extra man well to stick away the goals. At the other end, the Mincers seemed happy to hit the bar, the post, the other post, the post again and then the bar again - precision stuff! A late charge saw Stuart and William stick quite a few away but the Tattie men held on and even grabbed a few at the end.

Vote MOTM please!
