Looks like we might have ten!

Tuesday, October 31, 2006

Foxy on a night oot. Neil's off to Texas (yee-haw). Alan's got a late work meeting in Newcastle and Karl's ankle is still sore. Oh man, I thought, here we go again. However, Kyle, Steven and William are all able to play. I've not heard from Donny but he should be OK to play. Jon is currently meant to be on call for his work (just in case someone poops in the Kelvin) but is trying to swap it.

So, as long as Donny's OK, Jon doesn't get called out and Gordo doesn't pull his quad in his game tonight, we'll be fine for tomorrow. Fingers crossed people!

UPDATE - Donny is OK, Gordo is OK, Jon is still to let me know (EMAIL ME PLEASE JON!) but if Jon pulls out last minute (for which he will receive a sound thrashing with a sweaty pair of shin pads), Alan is going to back from Newcastle in time and has brought his kit - what commitment! So still not sure who the ten are going to be but there are going to be ten. Phew.

UPDATE TO THE UPDATE - Jon is able to play but gets a slap on the wrist for leaving it til 3:30pm today to tell me. Alan is heading home in disappointment but will return all the stronger next week I'm sure. As for teams, I don't really have time to sort it out now so just bring both tops please and we'll sort it out when we're there. Ta.

It's a sad day for Fitbaw

Tuesday, October 24, 2006

I'm sorry to say that we've had to cancel the game for tomorrow night through lack of players. Despite all my best efforts plus the efforts of Martie, Jon and Gordo to get some more players, we have ended up with only 6 players. We might have had 8 and could have played 4-a-side but we never heard back from the Boy Stu to see if he could squeeze in a game - no fault of his I hasten to add, he just won't have gotten the mail in time. Him and Martie were going to try and play before the gig.

So it's cancelled and has cost us £24.50 for the pleasure too coz unless you cancel 48hrs before, it's half the cost of the pitch. Less than 24hrs and it's the full cost which is why I'm calling it off now. Better losing £24.50 than £49.

This is the first game we've ever had to cancel through lack of numbers but there were three call offs yesterday and two this afternoon. Just not enough time to get hold of enough players. Everyone I did manage to get hold of couldn't play anyway (Ponto, Rims, Stevie, the guys from the DC, the SEPA chaps, etc, etc).

I sincerely hope this is not a sign of things to come and that you all remain as dedicated to the Fitbaw as I know you can be!

Fitbaw Xmas Night Oot - 8th December @ 6pm

Friday, October 20, 2006

I'm going to book the usual venue for the night oot this year - The Old Printworks. They let us reserve some tables, give us a free buffet, the booze is a decent price too and they have pool tables. Sounds like a done deal to me! Everyone I've spoken too should be able to make it so hopefully we'll get the full squad out plus some reserves. Could you please just confirm that you'll be attending so I have correct numbers. Ta much.

I'll point out at this stage that the kitty is not so healthy this year. We've had to buy two new balls (one had gone totally egg shaped and the other was lauched to an untimely death onto the M8). Also the pitch costs were raised at the end of last year and again just a few weeks ago so we're currently only getting £1 per game left over to go into the kitty.

I've also just set up www.fitbaw.org which costs just under £20 a year to run (domain registration and hosting costs). I've done this because we were scamming free hosting from Luke for the last few years which is a bit unfair on him. Unless anyone objects, I was going to take the costs for this out of the kitty. That means we all have a share in the website so if anyone needs anything hosted, just let me know.

So all in, after awards, hosting and the raised cost of the pitches, we're not going to have much left in the kitty which means we'll all just have to chip in on this night.

And the scores are in for Fitbaw - nil points

Big Stu has agreed with the rest of you that this week's game should just be declared null and void. We'll just pretend like it never happened OK? I believe that Craig and Foxy have settled their differences but Craig will be taking a break from Fitbaw for a wee while.

Next week Alan is back from his holiday and hopefully Karl will be fit again. Donny is away but may be back in time to take the 10th man place. I'll sort it all out next week.

shhhhhhhh...

www.fitbaw.org

What to do?

Well I suppose there's a first time for everything and although that's not the first time there's been an altercation on the park, it's definitely the first time we've ever had anyone leave the field of play, let alone two! Anyway, Craigo and Foxy are big boys now so I'm sure they can sort themselves out.

A related matter that has arisen is what to do with points and so on. Jon emailed me this:

  • Firstly, it was unfortunate that last nights game was marred by a minor disagreement. I hope the involved persons can resolve matters.
  • Secondly, well done to those who stayed on for the full hour.
  • Thirdly, I think the game should be null and void because the loss of a Foxy does not equate to a loss of Craigo (no disrespect intended). Even the FFF weighting show this.
  • For the blues who wish to use the points then that is cool, provided the whites who remained are not punished for something they had no involvement in i.e. just say all of the whites didn't play and therefore their points tallies aren't affected.

It's nearing the end of the season and it's all still to play for so I understand why Jon doesn't want the season's result to be marred by some dodgy incident. I'd appreciate all thoughts on what should be done with the points from last night. Either leave a comment if you wish or just email me if it would rather it wasn't out in the public domain.

Battle for the top

Wednesday, October 18, 2006

It's Jon-o vs The Boy Stu this week, battling it out for the top spot.

Karl is injured and Alan and Si are on holiday so Donny and Kyle are in.

Defensive differences

Wednesday, October 11, 2006

A different game from last week. It seemed that both teams were a bit switched off defensively but at the same time there was some great football being played going forward.

It was good to see Craigo back, just like his old goal-saving self. It was maybe some of Craig's heroics between the sticks that kept our lead intact. I especially liked Stu's cry of "Craig! F*ck it!" or something similar, as Craig saved Stu's fourth shot in a row.

MOTM is up and the all new shiney stats with correct FFF standings will be up shortly.

Up, up and away

Craigo said today that he reckons he'll be worth negative as he's the most unfit he's ever been at the moment. With that in mind, I've tried to balance the teams as well as I could. Also, I've no idea on Ponto's form but he's always fit and fast so hopefully that should balance off Craigo's knackeredness a wee bit.

Does anyone have any thoughts on the Fitbaw Xmas night out? It looks as though the IDOX one is going to be Friday the 15th December and, assuming we want to also have ours on a Friday like last year, it's going to have to be the 8th or the 22nd December. Could the non-IDOX guys let me know when your company nights out are going be please so we can get the pub booked - ta.

Finally, I noticed yesterday that I had made a big of a mistake with the Fitbaw Fantasy Fives league table. Everyone had almost twice as many points as they should. That has now been sorted which means the order has changed about a bit (I've personally dropped 4 places!). You may also notice that Creeky is no longer on the table after his announcement to retire the other day - I'm sure you'll all agree he's been very kind in stepping down.

Top of the stack, baby!

I was testing a new search engine this morning just ouf of curiosity and noticed that "fitbaw" can quite high, so I punched it into Google and lo and behold, we came out top!

It's the same for Yahoo! too!!

That is all.

Scraping the bottom of the barrel

Tuesday, October 10, 2006

With two guys on holiday, one injury, one nasty cold and one retirement we were in need of reserves this week. However the usual suspects proved to be equally elusive - injuries, the pub, holidays and more of the nasty cold that's going about meant that we were left with 9 up until a few minutes ago where one last ditch attempt to fill the tenth spot found me calling The Ponto! He hasn't played all season since he started his splinter league last year but he has kindly agreed to play for us tomorrow. Not too bad an option to find at the very bottom of a barrel I say!

Teams will be up at some point tomorrow.

As you may be aware, Scotland, now the best team in the world after beating France, who beat Italy, who are the World Cup holders, are playing Ukraine tomorrow. KO is at 6pm so I'm going to head up to the pitches early and be ready in the bar for 6 so I can watch the first half hour before our KO - you're all more than welcome to join me.

2005/2006 Season's Top 10 Goals

Monday, October 09, 2006

Not us, the other guys.

Hello from Creeky

Hi folks, long time..

Since my shingles in the summer I've not actually felt better even since my spots have gone-ish... I thought I'd be better by now but don't think I'll be able to play at least until next year in all honesty. I was speaking to eeks about maybe playing a game or two in goals but healthwise it's still not really sensible - Even though I really want to play!! so...

I recommend that my name comes off the league (not just greyed out) and one of the reserves gets promoted - why should i hog a place when I can't play?!. Also I should be taken off the Fantasy Football too and maybe swop me for someone else?

Next year I'll just be a reserve if I don't feel well enough to play.

I think this is fair and hope you agree with me. Would like to come to the xmas doo so will see you there... but of course..understand I won't get free booze all night ;-)

Take it easy..

Creeks.

Other news - Xmas & Creeky

Thursday, October 05, 2006

This night's Xmas night out is going to be one round of half lager shandies as the pitches have now gone up to £49! Pish! At this rate we'll be lucky to have £90. If no one objects, I think I'll just book the same as we had last year - free food in the pub with beer and pool. Sound OK?

The other piece of news is that I was chatting to Creeky and he offered to pull out of the league as he felt it was unfair to the other players coz he's not playing at the moment and isn't sure when he's going to return (although he is defo going to!). As it stands, even if he played every game from now til the end of the season, Creeks wouldn't have even played half of the total number of games for the season so I've left him in but kind of greyed him out a bit as he can no longer officially win player of the year. There's no "official" limit of games at the moment but I'm sure we all agree that not even half of the season isn't enough. It's a shame Creeks got ill not only for him but it would also have been interesting to see if he could have kept his run going - maybe next year big man!

Pooped

I am officially knackered after last night extravaganza! I really feel for the Mincers as they played really well and maybe a draw was a fair result but well played to the Tattie men for sticking in and managing to sneak the win after being behind for most of the game and only drawaing level in the last five minutes. If those guys had come on the pitch at the right time rather than 2 minutes late....

Next week Craigo makes his return. Alan and Si are on holiday (seperately I think).

More of the same?

Tuesday, October 03, 2006

I didn't play obviously but it was by all accounts a good game. Steven suggested the teams and they look OK to me. Kyle in for Stuart for the Mince and Big Dave and myself in for Neil and Martie on the Tatties side.

Can whoever has the ball please bring it? Cash to me as normal thanks.

Buongiorno!

Monday, October 02, 2006

I'm back from my travels and all seems to have gone well in my absence. Thanks to Si for sorting the website and teams out and thanks to Gordo for collecting the cash.

This week Neil is away on a training course all week, Martie is resting his groin strain from last week, Stuart is going to a gig and Donny is on call so Steven, Kyle and Big Dave (Gordo's mate) are making up the ten.

Craig has declared himself fit for next week's game bringing the hardcore squad up to eleven. Creeky has also expressed an interest in played a game in the near future - maybe just the odd game to get himself back into the swing of things.

Teams will go up at some point.
