Like the metaphorical swinging pendulum

Thursday, September 28, 2006

A late start made me think the game would be played at a canter as some energy was used up in the short delay before player number ten tore onto the pitch. He blamed an accident on his late arrival, and that he appeared to be wiping some ominous-looking red fluid from his hands as he ran on made me question him no further.

And then the mighty battled ensued. A quick lead was grabbed, then cancelled out, then regained and extended. It looked like the blues would run away with it until Foxy and Stuart started pinging in goals from distance to catch up and eventually put five white noses in front.

This clearly upset the blues who decided to do something I have heard of before called 'passing' and 'shooting' and 'scoring'. Some fine saves combined with equal measures of sublime and woeful shots at both ends of the pitch meant it was always going to be close from then on. It ended with the whites just holding onto a lead until the big boys came on and threw us off pitch six. A good game, but I am really tired now.

Teams are up

A focus group gathered for team selection this week. Hopefully they're pretty balanced.

Thanks to some satellite guidance from Iain, the MOTM poll has finally be put up.
I wonder if works...

About as easy as scoring past Alan

An act of God, some negligence, and a disappointing phone call resulting in me going out to squeeze raw sewage into bottles in Glasgow's East End all conspired to make me fail to put up a man of the match poll yesterday.

On my return, posting the poll proved tricky but, like the spider, I kept on trying; then like Eddie the Eagle, I eventually gave up. If anyone knows how to work the thing please give me a shout, or alternatively just leave a comment below. Aah, technology and me go hand in hand...

As for the match, I rather enjoyed it.

what's this?

'Run the website, Si' he said, luring me into the belief that it's straightforward. 'I still have a typewriter, Iain', I replied, 'and a penchant for tweed. How am I meant to do that?'. But he wrote me an idiot's guide and I wonder if these words will appear on the screen or not.

In the silly understanding that they will, the rundown for team selection is this: Foxy is out (back), Jon is out(gig), Iain is out (Rome), and Martie is out (out). In replacement we have SEPA striker Donny, ball-on-a-string Stevie, SEPA saver David and his pal Quick John. Hopefully the teams are balanced, but if not then don't blame me - I'm having enough difficulty typinh.

No more working for a week or two

Thursday, September 14, 2006

Another good game last night. The Mince had the upper hand all through the game but the Tatties battled hard and brought it back to three a number of times towards the end. I'm too tired to write any more about it but well played everyone.

I'm off on holiday for the next two weeks and I leave you in the very capable hands of the Si-man. The pitch is booked for next week (pitch 8) and we should have ten men already - Foxy is back from holiday but Jon is going to a gig and I'm away so Donny and Steven will be playing. If anyone else can't play then let me know TODAY or let Si know ASAP please (simon.pattullo AT sepa.org.uk). If I get a chance before the end of the week, I'll even try get the teams up to make life as easy as possible.

The week after, the only person I have for being away is myself so if you're not available for the game on the 27th September then let me know before the end of the week or contact Si as soon as you do know. Steven will be covering for me that week so that should be ten again (obviously Steven is the only person good enough to cover me - ahem).

Si's going to keep the website up to date but the stats will have to wait until I get back I'm afraid. So that's that! I hope you all enjoy the games without me there so shout, moan and semi-commentate all the way through. I shall think of you all as I enjoy a pint in Rome! Huzzah!

"What the heck's going on Iain?"

Wednesday, September 13, 2006

Now now children, I shall explain all. This week started out bad due to the fact that Foxy was on holiday and Karl was away for work. Donny had said he'd play but then decided better of it yesterday. Emails were sent, questions were asked but it turned out that William and Tamba were unable to play. At this point Steven was also unavailable and things were looking bleak! A few phone calls later and through Martie and Gordo we were up to ten with Brian and Graeme, both of who have played before.

A big sigh of relief came from myself until this morning when Neil emailed to say he was feeling ill and wouldn't be available - pish, as Foxy would say. Steven had made a late claim for a place yesterday only to have them all filled so I quickly dived back through to Steven's room to tell him he could play. Steven had the look of a dead man walking as he envisaged the dreaded phone call to the missus to tell her that he might be a bit late for her dad's birthday dinner but he agreed to play.

And then there were 10 - until Si called to also say that he was under the weather too! Emails off to the SEPA duo of Scott and David but neither could play. I even asked Ponto but he is stuck in Dundee for the rest of the day. I even asked the boys in the distribution centre who we've played a few against times but no joy there either.

So, how it currently stands is that we have ten as Si says he'll play despite feeling terrible. I have sent a message off to one other friend but he's a teacher so not sure when he'll actually get the message. We also have a new developer starting in the office today. He used to work with us when he was a student last year and does/did play football quite regularly. He only arrived in Glasgow today so no idea what kit he has with him but he might be willing to play so maybe between us we could cobble some kind of gear for him.

As soon as I know anything else, I'll let you guys know. There's always the chance we could pick up a random player when we're up there so Si doesn't have to play. I'd bring many different colours of tops as we may just end sorting the whole thing out when we get there when we see how many we actually have.

If anyone knows anyone else who wants a game then please let me know!

UPDATE - Kyle, the new guy in the office, is going to play so thanks very much to him! No idea what he's like so I reckon we'll just sort teams pitchside. See you all there!

Clash of the Titans

Thursday, September 07, 2006

What a game last night! That's three great battles in three weeks - that's what we like! The Mince took an early lead but then the Tattie men decided that this wasn't good enough and started pinging the ball about and find gaps in the defense with which they scored. By this point it was seven all and after getting fed up of Foxy moaning at us, the Mince decided to raise the game again. The score line was maybe a bit flattering to the Mince as it was a lot closer then four in reality. Well played to the Tatties for an amazingly spirited fight back and well played to the Mince for finding a bit more to secure the victory.

MOTM is up and could be a hard one as everyone gave 100% (some maybe more!).

Next week Martie is back from his travels but Foxy is off on his so Donny will be playing again. However, he'll be playing exclusively in goals as he'll be a pint of blood down so not up to all the running about. I'll try pick the teams to balance this out.

Picked by committee

This weeks teams are brought to you in conjunction with Gordo and Foxy. Please use sensibly.
