Hat of Doooom News

Monday, January 30, 2006

Alan won't be able to play this week as he's trvaelling to Newcastle on Wednesday and might not be back in time. That meant that only one name was to be drawn from the Hat of Doooom - and the winner was The Boy Stu himself. Only an hour or so after he proclaims himself fit, he is pulled from the hat! Oh the pain!

Next week, there will not be any Hat! Foxy is going to Parkhead, and Neil is gigging that night (details of the gig to follow for those who are interested).

IDOX vs The DC Grudge Match

As most of you know, Paul from the DC has asked for a re-match against the IDOX contingent. This will take place at 6:30pm on pitch 10, a week today (6th February). Hopefully this time it won't be the coldest and wettest day known to man.

Neil and Foxy are unavailable which means the squad is Alan, Iain, Creeky, Karl, Craig and Gordo.

They also have 6 players and no ringers this time apparently. Game on!

Tamba's Match Report

Thursday, January 26, 2006

Tamba is back with a vengeance! Go read his first match report in years!

Win, Lose and Draw

Only the third game of the season and we've had our first draw and what a momentous battle it was. It was a fight between the runners and the goal scorers. Unfortunately for the Tatties, we seem to have forgotten about the goal scoring part, but the runners kept going all night. I don't know about the rest of you but that was one hard game - I was knackered!

So all of us that have played all three games (other than Alan) have now notched up a win, a loss and a draw. Also, the "losing" team each week has, so far, always scored seven goals! OOOOOOOOOOOOH! Spooky!

So, MOTM is up - away and vote. The stats/FFF have also been updated - check it out (hee - I'm wining FFF!). Finally, Mikey Tamba is hopefully going to send me a match report so that will be about later on.

Next week Creeky and Martie are defo back in, and assuming Stuart can recover from his nasty snooker injury, we'll have twelve players again. The hat of dooooom will be brought into effect on Monday and you will be notified if you are benched - so if you don't hear from me on Monday, then please assume you are playing.

Episode VII: Return of the Tamba

Wednesday, January 25, 2006

The hat of doooooom struck again this week, benching Creeky and Martie. We had our ten but then disaster struck. Mr Marshal managed to injure his ankle playing another highly dangerous sport, snooker! Surely this is the crappest injury since Si just fell over on his own accord and was out for 6 months?

Quickly, I dashed back to Creeky and Martie but both had made plans for their day of rest. What to do? No sooner had I just finished asking myself that question, the answer emailed me. The long lost Mr Michael "Tamba Trio" Tamburrini emailed me to ask about the 11s game that's been talked about. He said he was coming down tonight to watch us play and maybe rustle up a match report, so the answer was obvious - I asked him if he knew anyone that could play! He didn't but did say he would be willing to run out to make up the numbers.

So there we go - Tamba, who we all thought was dead, will be playing his first game of Fitbaw since the 13th of October, 2004! Teams are currently under consideration and will go up ASAP.

Match Reports are back!

Thursday, January 19, 2006

no-way! yes-way. I am going to try and start adding wee reports like we used to get from Mr Tamba back in the day. Of course surpassing Tamba's writting style will be impossible but I'll do my best! Last nights report is here.

Creeky.

The Tatties were as good as the weather

"PISH!" was what Foxy would have shouted at everyone of the Tatties last night and we'd have deserved it! It was all going well until we had a goal disallowed but we'll say no more about that. From then on in we couldn't pass, score, mark, tackle, communicate or anything else that makes a team win. Ah well. There's always next week (if you survive the hat of dooooooooooooom!).

On the other hand, the Mincers played very well together. A good comeback for Creeky and Neil who both had good games (the big man especially). They harried (what was Neil like in the corner - battle, battle, battle - like a wee terrier!), the stuck the chances away and generally ran us off the park in the last half hour. Bah!

So, onto next week. If anyone is unavailable, or wants to drop out, then please let me know ASAP. At the moment we have twelve so the hat will be doing its thing on Monday. Stats and FFF will be updated when I find out what the final score was. 15 - 7 maybe?

FFF 2006

Wednesday, January 18, 2006

OK - all teams are in and verified that they are not over budget (a few have come in under budget). Hopefully all teams are unique which also saves a lot of grief (if you spot any duplicates, please let me know).

How this is going to work is like so - each of your players will get one point for every game they play in, one point for every game they draw and three points for every game they win - that's basically 1 for a loss, 2 for a draw and 4 for a win. Your team's total will be the sum of your five players' points. If two teams have the same score, then goal difference will be the decider. If they still are the same, then they will be ordered by the Manager's name. If, at the end of the season, two teams are level on goal difference and points, then goals scored will be the decider - this column isn't included in the table as there is little chance that it will really be needed.

The table will be updated every Thursday morning after the Wednesday night game unless I am too busy or on holiday! Currently, there are some scores on the doors as I have included last week's match. No one knew I was going to do this - not even me - so it's quite fair. It was just too much effort to leave last week's game out. If anyone doesn't like this then tough! It's my game! ;) It's probably better that everyone chose their teams based on who they wanted rather then who played in the first game of the season anyway, and one game probably won't make any real difference by the time we get to December.

Mid way through the season (which is the end of June) there may be a transfer window but I'm not exactly sure how this will actually work, so come the time, there might not be any transfers at all.

So, the table has now been published and you can access it through the Stats/FFF link in the left hand menu. Best of luck to you all for the inaugural FFF competition - may the best manager win!

The Hat of Doom

All twelve members of the squad reported fit for duty this week which meant we had to get the hat out. Two names were drawn and those names were Gordo and Foxy - sorry chaps. Foxy and Gordo are now exempt from the Hat Of Doom until we've all been drawn out.

Teams have now been posted and it's pitch 8 tonight. Thanks to Foxy for the help with team selection.

The Fitbaw Fantasy Fives (FFF) league table will be posted shortly when I have the one remaining team in.

Fitbaw Fantasy Fives is Alive!

Thursday, January 12, 2006

Here we go! Using the rankings from all of you guys, we now have a ranking for each player. Using these rankings, the players have been split into 6 pools, two in each one. Each pool has a value and you have a set budget to spend. You can spend any amount up to that budget but not a penny over. You are not required to spend all over the budget either. You must have 5 players in your team, no more, no less.

Points will be awarded to players as follows:

1 point for playing
1 point for a draw
3 points for a win

Your fantasy team's score will be the total of your players' points.

So onto the pools. The players in each pool are listed in alphabetical order:
Pool A - £10/head

Foxy, Stuart

Pool B - £9/head
Alan, Gordo

Pool C - £8/head
Jon, Si

Pool D - £7/head
Iain, Martie

Pool E - £6/head
Creeky, Karl

Pool F - £5/head
Craigo, Neil

Your budget is £36 - spend it wisely! Teams must be in by 5pm, Wednesday 18th at the latest.

Use the form below to generate your team and send. The form was all fancy so it checked your total budget remaining and all that but this program won't let me add scripts to the page. Best of luck!

UPDATE - The form has now been removed as no other entries are allowed.

Fantasy Fitbaw

Tuesday, January 10, 2006

As a few of you may know, we were thinking of starting up a fanatasy football league with us as the players, the idea being that you pick your top 5-a-side team out of the 12 hardcore and then you get points if you player plays, wins etc.

I'm looking into getting this all set up online with the help of uber geek Baz but what I need from you guys is your rankings for the hardcore. We need to split us up into seeded pools (like the World Cup draw) and everyone will get to pick a top seed a second seed a third seed and two 4th seeds or something like that - this still in the planning stages so bear with us.

So, please email me (cocovan AT gmail.com) with your rankings so we can fairly get the proper order to pool the players. We would use the rankings but I think we all know that the stats are pish!

And the first name out of the hat is...

All our names were added to the "hat" (a plastic bag) and an independent adjudicator (Big Dave Gibson) drew the first name from the hat. In the room at the time were me, Foxy, Gordo and Craig, and the tension was palpable. Dave drew a lot, opened the piece of paper and read out the name - and it was..... Foxy!

Ian obviously took his benching with grace and humility and in no way did he rant and rave and try for a re-draw. Not at all. So Foxy will miss tomorrow's game unless someone drops out. Also, Foxy is now out of the "hat" and cannot be drawn again until everyone else has been forced to sit out at some point. I imagine that most of these will happen at the beginning of the year then the holidays, injuries and other stuff will start happening.

Foxy was still involved this week and assisted in the team selection. We've had a few weeks off so it may be a bit hit or miss based on (previous rank x fitness)/(mince pies eaten + pints drank).

UPDATE - Well sack all that chat. Neil has offered to drop out as he's full of the cold. That leaves 10 hardcore and no need for any hat pulling nonsense. The teams will be updated tomorrow morning.

2006 Season

2004 Season

New Year, New Season, Same Crap Old Players

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

We have 11 out of our 12 able to play (Creeky canny) so if there's anyone who would rather miss the game, please let me know. If no one gets back to me by the end of today then I'll just draw a name out of the hat. Either way, the teams will be up tomorrow at some point.

We're back to the sand dunes for the first game of the season (pitch 7) - ouch!
