Penultimate League Matches and Kitty Bashing

Monday, November 28, 2005

We have a few missing bodies this week with Gordo and Karl having wee injuries. Creeky is out for the rest of the season and Craig (who is injured anyway) is away in London on Wednesday.

So three were required, and who else would it be other than Jon, Donny and David! Hurrah and thanks chaps. Teams will go up shortly but we will be keeping Foxy and Stuart in the same team until the big show down next week.

Everyone please remember that the night out is on the 9th of December - a week on Friday. It will take place at The Old Printworks (36 North Frederick Street) and kick off is at 6:30pm (of course!).

They're reserving the area at the back of the pub for us and putting on a free buffet too - w00t! If that's not enough food, then we can order more off the menu as we see fit.

As for entertainment, people have been asking if there will be awards again this year and I can now confirm that there will be! They will, of course, be lame and attempting to be mildly amusing (and no doubt failing). If anyone has any ideas for awards and who should win them, then please drop me an email. There is also a couple of pool tables for later on to see if our control is any better with some wee baws.

The kitty is around the £200 mark, but off that we have to "make" the awards and I thought it would be an idea to maybe get Luke a small token to say thanks for hosting this site for free all year. I assume there aren't any objections to this. Luke, if you're reading this, forget I said anything. Tom, don't tell your wee brother please!

So far attending I have:

Iain, Foxy, Craig, Gordo, Neil, Alan, Creeky, Karl, Si, Stuart, Martie, Jon, Donny, Ponto and Scott. Al and David have also been invited but I'm not sure if they are going to make it or not - guys, let me know please!

I have no idea what happened...

but there's the MOTM poll on the right if you fancy voting.

If you missed voting for MOTM last week becuase the poll was slow, then you still can by going here. Results of that vote are here.

Regulars, not ringers

Monday, November 21, 2005

Hopefully, everything should be back to normal this week. Craig reckons his groin injury should be fine to play (but he's going to confirm), Martie is on early shift and able to play, Neil returns for what will (hopefully) be his first competative game, and I should be feeling chipper enough to also join in. That gives us 10 regulars to pick from this week - teams to follow.

Quick update - I'm not going to play to give myselg another week to get over this virus thingy so Jon will be playing in my place, cementing his position at the top of the reserves table! Wooooo!!

Last week's game was a sneaky, underhanded afair, with the SEPA boys pulling in an unofficial ringer at the last minute AND manipluating Craig to make him injure himself. So the final score is guess on Si's part but if anyone can give a more accurate account of the score, please let me know.

Teams Update - Teams have now been posted - sorry for the delay but I was under the cosh yesterday. I've decided to keep Stu and Foxy in the same teams up until the last game before the night out when they can go head to head for the top of the league spot - exciting!

I've also decided to pit Mr Fox vs El Gordo as those two have their own private battle to beat each other. Gordo would have to beat Foxy every week for him to go above him so we'll see what happens.

There is one last possibility for the league champ - if Stu/Foxy lose their games, then big Creeky could finish at the top as he won't be playing again this year due to his nose. What a finish!

IDOX vs SEPA (and Stu)

Tuesday, November 15, 2005

This week we have a few missing bodies:

- Martie is working the back shift
- Foxy is going to a family get together
- Neil, after his recent comeback, is heading off to Edinburgh after work
- Christian is, well, broken (and in London anyway)
- I, yes me your beloved captain/manager, have the cold and would be even more shite than usual so am taking a break.

That means that we see the return of the SEPA lads with a vengeance - Jon, Donny and David are all playing. The final spot goes to William.

Now, the more observant among you will have noticed that there is a natural break down in the players this week - those who work at IDOX, and those who don't (or SEPA and Stu as they could otherwise be grouped). So that's exactly what we're going to do. The second IDOX vs SEPA 5s game will be tomorrow night.

The last time these two teams met, the players where slightly different. It was:

IDOX = Creeky, Craig, Iain, Gordo and Karl
SEPA = Si, Jon, Donny, Al, and Martie

The score was 15 - 12 to IDOX.

What will happen this time? Find out tomorrow, 6:30, pitch 8!

Beak Watch!

Creeky's nose is defo broken. He sat at A & E for hours last night only to be told that there was too much swelling for an X-ray so he has to go back today. Poor bugger.

The early bird...

Tuesday, November 08, 2005

...kicks off early.

6pm this week and pitch 4 for a change - that's a nasty astro-sandpaper one so be warned! The early kick off was requested by Martie who wants to get back to watch the CIS Cup tie between the blue guys and the green guys. He says thanks to all for agreeing to the change.

This week sees a top of the table clash with Foxy and Stu up against Gordo and Creeky. Remember we also have the return of Neil - ahh, finally we'll get to see that wonderful step over again!

IDOX Fitbawers vs The DC

Well the inaugural match between our two factions was a undisputed success. Well at least it would have been if it wasn't the most miserable night for a game of fitbaw. I've never been to fricking wet since my ruggar days.

Anyway, 8 goals in it giving us a final score of 17-9 to the IDOX Fitbawers - hurrah! I think the main difference between the two teams was just the fitness thing. If the DC lads had been playing recently, then it would have been a much tighter game.

Some good football on show at times from both teams. The odd thunderous shot from Jan and too many good runs from Captain Russell. That guy in the poncy headband even nutmegged me (that's one each big man)!

For us Foxy was his usual midfield mystro self while the rest of us just ran around a lot. The rolling sub was a terrible idea as all that happened was that one of our players was stuck off the park freezing his baws off which doesn't make for the most useful of players!

So anyway, all that's left is to vote for your Man of the Match. Click on the guy you want and hit the "submit" button. Once you've voted, you'll get the chance to leave a comment to say who you voted for and why. Make sure you give your comment a name and a title if you want it to appear.

Thanks to all who played!

Handbags at Dawn!

Thursday, November 03, 2005

Another good game last night despite the odd scuffle. It may well have been tighter and even gone the other way had El Gordo not injured his back again. That does meant that he'll be missing the DC challenge match on Monday which means we'll just play with 6 and use a rolling sub which is fine with the DC lads.

MOTM is up for this week and congrats to The Boy Stu for winning last weeks vote. However, in the game of Fitbaw, it giveth and it taketh away. Despite him winning last week's MOTM award, after leading the league the whole season, Stuart has now dropped to second place! Gutting! That smug bugger Foxy is now looking down on us all. Five games to play until the night out.

Speaking of the night out, I've not actually heard back from everyone saying they'll be attending. If you have't dropped me an email, could you please? Just so I have a record of who's coming. Ta.

So it's next week that Neil makes his return. Martie is playing too which (assuming Gordo won't be playing on Wednesday either) gives us our 10. Neil wants to play in goals to start off with, which means the rest of his team won't be able to get a rest between the sticks. I'll make sure that the fitter folks get to go in Neil's team. Mind you, I remember Neil being quite handy in goals so this could be interesting.

Challenge Matches

Wednesday, November 02, 2005

We have two different sets of people challenging us to games at the moment. First off, there is an inter-IDOX game this coming Monday at 6:30pm on pitch 10. The Ditribution Center have challenged the Fitbaw IDOXers to a game of 5s. This is the second time they have challenged us but this time they have promised that they actually can raise a team. So playing for us will be:

  • Iain

  • Alan

  • Foxy

  • Gordo

  • Karl

  • Creeky

  • Craig

A full compliment of IDOXers! We'll have to play with rolling subs which isn't great as it does break up the flow of the silky game we will be playing, but it does mean everyone is involved.

Playing for them is.... well I don't know and Paul (the guys from the DC who organises their lot) won't tell!

The second challenge match is either going to be an 11-a-side game or 7-a-side game and this one is for all to play in. Gordo's mates, who he plays 5s with every Tuesday, fancy a game against us (maybe on a regular basis). Numbers will dictate whether it's 11s or 7s. More info as I get it.

Technical Difficulties

Sorry about the delay with the teams for this week - there were some technical difficulties with the web site. All is now fixed and the teams are now up. Martie couldn't get the time off work, so Jon is filling in.
