New Match Report
Mikey Writes Again
Mikey's new match report is ready for reading!
Next week's game is at 6pm (for no other reason than that was the only time they had). It also means that we are on a mini pitch!! ($!£&*#?!)
Remember to head over to the forum and vote for your MOTM if you haven't done so.
Si has also had to pull out of tomorrow's game but Big Dave Gibson has stepped into the slender gap. Currently, we are still trying to get someone to sub in for Neil. It looks like Mr Philip Woodrow (head boss typed dude) may be playing - do we let him win or risk losing our jobs? ;-)
New match report for your reading pleasure.
I've stuck up a forum for all the chat to save the billion emails that fly about. I'd love to say if took me ages and was really hard to do but it took about 3 mins to set up! You'll have to register and then be approved before you can view or post any messages. Enjoy! (I'll update all the navigation links when I get a chance).
Well, so much for the teams being unfair! ;-) Well done to the Mince who maintain their unbeaten run.
Next week the only time I could get was 9pm - sorry. If anyone can't make it that late please let me know ASAP. Neil won't be playing as he's got something on in Edinburgh. His replacement will be announced as soon as we get one. We've also got a proper sized pitch next week too (pitch 5).
Mikey T has written a wee history of how this all came about so when we're all famous we can look back and think....
"Man, we were pish!"
The teams looked a bit unfair and a few people have said so too. So the Tattie team have swapped Martin for big Tam the Bam. A fair deal, I'm sure you'll agree (as long as you're in the Mince team!) ;-)
I entered last night's results and the teams were auto-generated based on the rankings. Certain people are concerned that the last time Martie, Si and I played on the same team, it wasn't the most enjoyable game. Therefore, should we change the teams? The new selection method will take a few weeks to settle in but should we make an exception this week and manually pick the teams again.
If I hear a lot of objections then we'll re-do them, if not, the teams stay as they are.
Neil and Alan are on hols, I am injured and now big Martie FORGOT about fitbaw and accepted a ticket to go to the Livingston v Rangers game! We only managed to find two replacements so that means that it's 4-a-side. New teams have been selected to balance it out. If you don't like them, then just change them coz I won't be there to bully you about this week!
The price will still only be a fiver - the kitty will pick up the rest.
The kitty - generous!
Last night's game was a stormer. The new team selection method seems like a winner! Mike has written a new match report.
Next week both Alan and Neil are on holiday (not together or so they claim) so we have a couple of ringers. Alan
has lined up Michael R (who played in the very first game) and I think Scott (who also has played before) will be
filling Neil's mighty (new) shoes.
UPDATE: Scott can't play and so another ringer named Stuart (a friend of me and Si) will be playing. I have also managed to injure myself this weekend (playing football) and will not be able to play tomorrow. The hunt is on for another player!
I popped out during lunch to Greaves and we are now the proud owners of a shiny new ball! A bargain at only £15.
Lads - Here we have the beginnings of a new site to help us keep track of the goings on of our 5-a-side games. It has been thrown together by me (Iain) but Tam the Bam is currently speccing out a new site that will be all singing, all dancing.
An idea has been voiced that could stop unfair teams being chosen . The plan is to use the player rankings to
chose the teams. This will (in theory) always lead to balanced teams and, hopefully, a better, more intense match.
The theory goes a little like this:
Using the new ranking system (players ordered by points/games and then on goal difference), we split up the players
based on rank so the teams are even. This means you will always be competing against the person above or below you
and so will be fighting for your position. This also means that the ranks will change pretty much every week (or they
will after a few rounds). It also means that the bottom ranked player will always be on the opposite team to the top,
giving them a chance to catch up.
If you add up the ranks of all the players i.e. the sum of 1-10, you get 55, split this and you get a split of 27 to 28.
The team who's ranks add up to 27 should, in theory be the slightly stronger team. Therefore, the "27" team will be the
one who doesn't have the top ranked player.
Using this formula, and using the ranks after last night's game, the teams for next week will be as follows:
| M Ranks | Mince | Tatties | T Ranks |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Alan | Iain | 2 |
| 4 | Martin P | Luke | 3 |
| 6 | Si | Michael T | 5 |
| 8 | Tom | Craig | 7 |
| 9 | Christian | Neil | 10 |
| 28 | Totals | 27 | |
So basically, it's always going to be:
Mince = 1,4,6,8,9
Tatties = 2,3,5,7,10
Hope this is OK and makes sense to everyone. Any problems with this system, then give me a shout.
